Integrating Glycemic Control and Weight Management - 檢視糖胖與肥胖兩類病人之臨床需求
The clinical management of metabolic disease increasingly requires attention to both glycemic control and body weight. In real‑world practice, clinicians encounter two related but distinct patient types: patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), often presenting with diabesity, and individuals with obesity who require chronic weight management. These overlapping challenges contribute to increased cardiometabolic risk and highlight the need for treatment strategies that address both glycemic and weight‑related considerations.
This lecture reviews tirzepatide, a dual glucose‑dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon‑like peptide‑1 (GLP‑1) receptor agonist, within the context of these two patient types. Clinical evidence from the SURPASS program, which enrolled patients with T2D, and the SURMOUNT program, which primarily evaluated individuals with obesity and chronic weight management needs, will be discussed to illustrate the therapeutic effects of tirzepatide on glycemic parameters and body weight across different clinical populations.
By examining data from these clinical trial programs, the session aims to provide a balanced and integrated perspective on managing patients facing concurrent glycemic and weight challenges. The discussion will emphasize the clinical importance of recognizing differing patient populations while applying a unified treatment mindset, supporting individualized decision‑making in patients with diabesity as well as those with obesity‑related unmet needs.
